The International Falcon Breeders Auction came to a successful close in Riyadh after a bustling 20-day affair, with sales more than SR10 million ($2.66 million). This marks the fourth year of the auction, and it was held at Saudi Falcons Club headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh.
Throughout the auction, 866 majestic falcons found new homes, thanks to contributions of 56 top-tier falconry farms from 19 countries, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency. Waleed Al-Taweel, spokesperson of the Saudi Falcons Club, said that hundreds of falcons were featured at the auction including elite and rare breeds.
A male ultra white gyrfalcon from American Pacific Northwest Falcons, the most expensive falcon of the year, was sold for SR400 000. The high-profile sale was indicative of the auction’s status as an elite platform for rare and valuable falcons.
The Saudi Falcons Club admitted that this year’s auction gained much more recognition as it witnessed greater involvements from local farms, giving them opportunities to learn from top international breeders. The success of the auction reflects the growing influence and appeal of the falcon industry in Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world.
