The Annual Camel Racing Festival 2025 opened at the Al Wathbah Camel Racetrack in Abu Dhabi on March 1, marking the 46th edition of one of the UAE’s most prestigious heritage sporting events. The festival, which ran until March 18, drew thousands of spectators and participants from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), showcasing the enduring legacy of camel racing in Emirati culture. (Dubai Times)

The event featured dozens of competitive races across various age groups and distances, with elite camels from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and other Gulf nations vying for top honours. Beyond the competition, the festival offered a stage for camel owners and trainers to demonstrate their breeding expertise and highlight the role camels continue to play in Emirati heritage. (Gulf Today)

Cultural activities surrounded the races, including exhibitions, traditional souqs and displays of Bedouin crafts and cuisine. Organisers emphasised the festival’s dual purpose, to preserve traditions while promoting Abu Dhabi as a hub for cultural tourism. Families, tourists, and international media outlets gathered at Al Wathbah, reflecting the event’s growing appeal beyond local communities. (Khaleej Times)

One of the highlights of the 2025 festival was the integration of robot jockeys and advanced race timing systems, blending tradition with modern technology. These innovations not only ensured fair competition but also showcased how the UAE is adapting its heritage sports for the future. (The National)

The closing ceremony on March 18 celebrated champions across multiple categories and reaffirmed the UAE’s leadership in maintaining camel racing as both a sport and a cultural symbol. Organisers praised the strong participation from GCC countries and highlighted the event’s role in connecting generations through a shared heritage. (Dubai Times)
