Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, the Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC), has recently visited the Saudi Paralympic team at the Athletes’ Village in Paris ahead of the 2024 Summer Paralympics.

Accompanied by Adwa Al-Arifi, a board member, and Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Baeshen, the SOPC Chief Executive and Secretary-General, Prince Fahd’s visit emphasized the significance of ensuring that the Saudi athletes had all the necessary support and resources to compete effectively on the world stage.

During his visit, Prince Fahd engaged with the athletes, coaching staff, and medical teams, expressing his confidence in their abilities to represent Saudi Arabia with honor and to achieve positive results that align with the Kingdom’s ambitions. He conveyed greetings and encouragement from the SOPC President, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki, reinforcing the committee’s commitment to the athletes’ success.

Saudi Arabia has steadily increased its participation and performance in the Paralympic Games over recent years. The 2024 Paralympics marks another critical chapter in the Kingdom’s journey in adaptive sports, with a team that includes competitors in various disciplines such as athletics, equestrian, powerlifting, table tennis, and taekwondo.

In athletics, Saudi athletes like Ali Al-Nakhli and Abdulrahman Al-Qurashi are competing in track events, while Hassan Dawshi is participating in the men’s long jump T20 event. Sarah Al-Jumaah represents Saudi Arabia in the women’s shot put F34.

In equestrian, Ahmed Adnan Sharbatly competes in the individual championship test grade V event with his horse Godiva DII. In powerlifting, Adnan Noorsaeed is a notable competitor in the men’s -49 kg category. Meanwhile, in taekwondo, Eyad Abdullah Al-Turayk is competing in the men’s -63 kg event.

Al-Qurashi won bronze in the 100m wheelchair race at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, gold in the 100m wheelchair race at the 2022 Asian Paralympic Games in Hangzhou, and gold in the 100m race at the 2024 World Paralympic Athletics Championships.

Meanwhile, Al-Anzi achieved bronze in the doubles competition at the French International Championship in 2023, silver in the doubles at the 2024 Egyptian International Championship, and silver in the singles at the 2024 Jordan International Championship.

Saudi Arabia’s participation in the 2024 Paralympics underscores the nation’s commitment to inclusivity in sports and its strategic efforts to develop and support athletes with disabilities. With increasing investments in sports infrastructure and athlete development, the Kingdom aims to make a significant impact on the international stage.

The visit by Prince Fahd highlights the importance placed by Saudi leadership on the success and well-being of their Paralympic athletes, reflecting the broader vision of promoting sports as a key component of national pride and international presence.
