BRICS 2024: Russia is gearing up for an action-packed 2024 with a calendar that rivals the intensity of a full-blown symphony.

As the conductor of this geopolitical orchestra, Russia is set to orchestrate a crescendo of events, discussions, and collaborations that will echo across the global stage.

With the baton of the BRICS chairmanship in hand, Russia is not merely assuming a role; it’s stepping into the spotlight with a well-composed agenda under the resonant theme of “Strengthening Multilateralism for Equitable Global Development and Security.”

It’s not just about diplomatic manoeuvres; it’s about creating a harmonious symphony of international relations with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates officially joining the influential bloc.

BRICS’ growing authority and global significance

The five original member states, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, accepted the first phase of applications to join the emerging economies bloc during the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg last August.

During a New Year’s Day address, Russian President Vladimir Putin said this development underscored the association’s commitment to principles such as sovereign equality, mutual consideration of interests, and pursuit of a multipolar international order.

The focus will be on positive and constructive cooperation, emphasising foreign policy coordination, addressing global challenges, and bolstering economic partnerships.

One of the key highlights of Russia’s chairmanship is the consideration of additional countries expressing interest in the BRICS agenda.

Approximately 30 nations are being evaluated for potential inclusion, with plans to introduce a new category of BRICS partner countries. This move aims to diversify further and strengthen the association’s multidimensional agenda.

Over 200 events of different levels and types are scheduled throughout Russian cities as part of the chairmanship, leading up to the pinnacle – the BRICS Summit in Kazan in October.

The summit is expected to provide a platform for member countries and partners to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborations across politics and security, economy and finance, as well as cultural and humanitarian domains.

As Russia takes the lead, it anticipates productive collaboration with all countries within the BRICS orbit.

The expansion of this influential association heralds a new era of global cooperation and solidarity, potentially reshaping the dynamics of international relations.
