Instructions
Prepare the filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped Napa cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper.
- Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Allow the mixture to marinate for about 15-20 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Assemble the dumplings
- Place a small spoonful of the pork filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your fingertip.
- Fold the wrapper in half, creating a half-moon shape, and press the edges together to seal the dumpling. Ensure there are no air pockets.
Shape the dumplings
- You can leave the dumplings as half-moons or create a pleated edge for a decorative touch. To pleat, fold and pinch one side of the dumpling, creating small pleats along the sealed edge.
Cook the dumplings
- Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Place the dumplings in the skillet, ensuring they are not too crowded.
- Cook the dumplings for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms become golden brown.
Steam the dumplings (Optional)
- If you prefer a softer texture, you can steam the dumplings. Place a steamer basket over boiling water and steam the dumplings for about 10-12 minutes.
Serve and enjoy
- Once cooked, transfer the dumplings to a serving plate.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce mixed with a dash of rice vinegar or chili oil.
Note: Feel free to get creative with the filling by adding ingredients like minced garlic, ginger, or additional vegetables.
Enjoy your homemade Dan Jiao – a delightful Chinese dish perfect for any occasion!
