With a career spanning 31 years and working at South African national stations such as 702, 5fm, SAfm and Radio 2000, White has been welcomed into the elite club of radio professionals.

But as his radio career reaches the ultimate height, Ray says he is excited at what lies ahead in 2024.

Ray White joins BGTN

“Radio is an intimate medium, one where you enter the living room, car or simply the personal space of listeners. You can educate, entertain, and even help form opinions by providing all the facts and truths available. In short, radio is essential in keeping a healthy democracy,” explained the veteran at Friday’s awards.

But that’s not where it ends for White.

Instead, a whole new chapter lies ahead for the seasoned broadcaster.

An iconic moment in radio history – @raywhitesa takes a well-deserved place in the @SARadioAwards Hall of Fame. Congratulations on this prestigious achievement!#TelkomRadioAwards#SARadioAwards pic.twitter.com/ZJZK87z8XU

BGTN – is set to begin broadcasting in 2024. The Brics countries have offered a new perspective to the global economy, the way the countries consider themselves and where they can or should fit internationally.

BGTN will look at stories affecting BRICS countries and their member states in a world dominated by Western media and news. Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Ethiopia, are set to join Brics next year, with many more looking to be added.

These new developments have, therefore, offered a substantial opportunity for White to expand his scope and bring forward the visual stories these countries have to offer.

“The next few months will see BGTN offer a wide choice of news and entertainment. The BRICS plus Six countries and others will be able to tell their stories globally,” explained White.

This, for White is the ultimate opportunity for storytelling.

“Africa still has many stories to tell along with nations outside of the continent. Whether radio or tv, storytelling lies at the heart of good journalism. I’m looking forward to a journey with BGTN where this continues, but now through visuals and on a global stage. Here’s to 2024”.
