At the age of 57, Stephen Kotze made a bold decision to leave his life in St. Francis Bay, South Africa, for a new adventure in Mozambique. Leaving behind a successful 30-year-old business, Stephen and his family embarked on a journey to Villanculos, a picturesque town known for its stunning coastline and turquoise waters. There, Stephen realized his dream of offering boat tours, a passion he had long harbored. With the support of his son and a few helpers, he now runs a small but dedicated operation aboard his boat, affectionately named Mamlambu.
Stephen’s boat tours offer a unique and authentic experience of Mozambique’s natural wonders. Visitors can explore the breathtaking coastline, vibrant coral reefs, and secluded islands, each with its own distinct charm. From snorkeling among the coral to witnessing the diverse marine life, including the impressive giant trevally and blacktip reef sharks, his tours promise a memorable adventure. Stephen’s attention to detail and his focus on creating enjoyable and safe experiences for his guests are evident in his thorough guidance and passion for the sea.
However, Stephen’s journey has not been entirely smooth sailing. His business has faced significant challenges, including surviving two severe cyclones in recent years that caused considerable damage to the region. Yet, Stephen remains optimistic and views these obstacles as part of the adventure. The resilience of the local community and the untouched beauty of Mozambique continue to inspire him, reinforcing his belief that Africa holds abundant opportunities for those willing to embrace the adventure.
