The VII BRICS+ Countries Drama School Festival is set to unfold in the heart of Moscow, Russia, at the iconic VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) on the 1st of June. This remarkable event brings together young talents from diverse cultural backgrounds, creating an innovative platform for intercultural exchange between theatre schools across the globe.

The BRICS+ Initiative

BRICS+ Countries
The festival’s participants hail from the BRICS+ countries, which include: China, Russia, Iran, India, South Africa, UAE and Belarus

A Unified Mosaic of Stage Phenomena
The festival’s theme, aptly titled “Playing Together!,” embodies the spirit of collaboration and artistic synergy. Young artists from these nations will showcase their theatre productions, merging them into a grand final performance. What makes this festival truly unique is that the artists will interact with each other in their native languages, transcending linguistic barriers without the need for interpreters.

Major Productions and Highlights

Pushkin’s “A Tale About a Fisherman and a Fish”
Representing Russia, the Institute of Theatre Arts named after People’s Artist of the USSR Joseph Kobzon will present a performance based on Alexander Pushkin’s work. This timeless tale will come alive on stage, weaving together artistry, culture, and storytelling.

Oedipus Rex: A Multicultural Journey
This year’s festival revolves around the immortal tragedy “Oedipus Rex” by Athenian playwright Sophocles. Students and professors from drama schools in Brazil, India, China, and South Africa will interpret different scenes from this classic play. Over the course of 10 days, an entire era will be reconstructed, filled with emotions and passions. On the final day, participants will collaborate to create a single production that resonates across cultures, transcending language barriers.

Master Classes and Artistic Exploration
Beyond performances, the festival program includes Master classes in acting, plastic arts, and choreography. Engaging sessions led by People’s and Honoured Artists of Russia. These workshops provide a unique opportunity for skill-sharing and artistic growth.

BRICS Diplomacy Through Theatre

Preserving Cultural Exchange
The festival has been organised by the Institute of Theatre Arts since 2017. It enjoys international recognition and has garnered warm responses from participants and audiences alike. The format of “Let’s play together!”,a theatrical event without parallels, earned it the prestigious Grant of the President of Russia, recognised as a particularly significant project in the realm of culture and art.

Collaboration Beyond Borders
The festival exemplifies the power of art to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and celebrate our shared humanity. As the BRICS+ initiative continues to strengthen cultural ties, events like this contribute to global harmony and mutual respect.

The VII BRICS+ Countries Drama School Festival promises a vibrant tapestry of creativity, where theatre transcends boundaries and unites us all. Moscow, with its rich cultural heritage, serves as the perfect stage for this remarkable celebration of artistic expression.
