Moscow, April 2024 – The International Park Forum held in Moscow this April brought together key stakeholders and experts to discuss the development of BRICS cities, focusing on innovation and sustainable urban growth. Organised by the Moscow Urban Forum, the event served as a platform for various industry projects, including the BRICS International Innovation Forum, which addressed the challenges and future prospects of cities within the BRICS nations.

Experts from diverse fields converged to exchange ideas and share best practices aimed at fostering sustainable urban development across BRICS countries. The forum provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to collaborate on projects that promote innovation and address urban challenges faced by growing cities within the BRICS framework.

Infrastructure and development in BRICS countries are crucial factors that significantly impact economic growth and sustainability. The BRICS nations, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, have recognised the importance of infrastructure investment in driving economic progress and enhancing the quality of life for their citizens. Several key points emerge from the sources provided:

1. Infrastructure Development and Resources Consumption: Infrastructure development in BRICS countries is essential for economic growth but can also pose challenges to natural resources due to its extensive nature. The focus on infrastructure growth aims to enhance economic activities and improve living standards, but it must be managed sustainably to mitigate resource depletion.

2. Impact on Economic Growth: Research highlights the positive impact of infrastructure investment on economic growth in BRICS countries, emphasising the role of infrastructure in driving development and prosperity. The development of robust infrastructure is crucial for attracting private investment, fostering economic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

3. Progress and Challenges: While progress has been made in improving infrastructure in BRICS countries, there are disparities in growth rates and sector-specific advancements amongst the nations. Countries like China and India have experienced rapid infrastructure growth, particularly in telecommunications, while Brazil and Russia face challenges due to underdeveloped infrastructure and maintenance issues.

4. Infrastructure Investment Symposium: Events like the BRICS Infrastructure Investment Symposium aim to promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategies to expedite infrastructure development through private sector participation and sustainable finance. These initiatives focus on addressing the financing gap for infrastructure projects and leveraging global savings to meet the growing demand for infrastructure investments.

5. Role in Sustainable Development: Public infrastructure investment plays a vital role in inclusive and sustainable development in BRICS countries, contributing to economic integration and environmental sustainability By prioritising infrastructure development, these nations can enhance connectivity, promote economic opportunities, and address social and environmental challenges.

In summary, infrastructure and development in BRICS countries are interconnected aspects that require strategic planning, investment, and collaboration to drive economic growth, improve living standards, and ensure sustainable progress across the region.
