Chinese President Xi Jinping was born on 15 June 1953 and is 70 years old. His father, Xi Zhongxun, was a veteran revolutionary and prominent political figure. His mother, Qi Xin, also played an important role in the communist revolution.

Xi’s wife, Peng Liyuan, is a well-known Chinese folk singer and performer. Xi Jinping’s childhood was marked by notable turbulence due to the political instability during the 1960s and 70s. At the age of 15, Xi was sent to work in the rural village of Liangjiahe, where he lived in a cave house and laboured alongside villagers for seven years.

Xi Jinping has shown a strong commitment to alleviating poverty and fighting corruption throughout his tenure. Over the past few decades, China has implemented various policies and initiatives to reduce poverty and improve the lives of its citizens. These efforts have resulted in hundreds of millions of people being lifted out of poverty,

Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government has launched a high-profile anti-corruption campaign targeting both high-ranking and low-level officials. The campaign, aimed at rooting out corruption at all levels of government and society, has resulted in the investigation and punishment of numerous officials, sending a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated in China.

This combination of undated handout pictures provided by the US Department of Defense created on January 29, 2024 shows US soldiers, from L to R, Sgt. William Rivers, Spc. Breona Moffett and Spc. Kennedy Sanders who were killed in a drone attack on their base in remote northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border, on January 28, 2024. The White House vowed Monday to respond decisively to an attack in Jordan it blames on Iran-backed militants, in which a drone slammed into a military base and killed three Americans while troops were in their beds. The casualties -- the first US military deaths in an attack in the Middle East since the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7 -- raised fears of an escalating conflict, as fighting rages in Gaza and related violence plagues other parts of the region.
