The InteRussia fellowship programme in Moscow, aimed at young actors from BRICS+ countries, has successfully concluded. Held at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), the training provided participants from Argentina, Brazil, India, Iran, China, and South Africa with an immersive experience in Russian theatre, exploring its rich traditions over several weeks.

Leading instructors at GITIS introduced the participants to advanced acting techniques, drawing from the theories and legacies of renowned Russian actors and playwrights. On September 20, the final day of the programme, the students showcased their learning in a performance that highlighted their growth throughout the fellowship.

Mikhail Shvydkoy, Professor at GITIS and Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation, commended the programme for fostering cultural dialogue among BRICS+ nations. Tatyana Morozova, a senior instructor at GITIS, noted the high level of preparedness and motivation demonstrated by the participants.

Mikhail Chumachenko, a directing faculty member, remarked on the mutual exchange of knowledge that occurred during the fellowship, where instructors learned from the diverse perspectives of the interns.

Participants shared their experiences, with Indian actor Abhijit Kumar Singh emphasizing the clarity and direction he gained through the training. Brazilian actress Barbara Kunda de Freitas highlighted the valuable skills she acquired, particularly in attention and perception, which she found essential for her future work.

Launched in 2021, the InteRussia fellowship programme has expanded its focus to include cultural professionals during Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship Year. The initiative aims to enhance the professional skills of international specialists and promote a positive image of Russia globally. It is developed in collaboration with GITIS and supported by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and the Presidential Grants Fund..
