Four-time World Rugby Champions, the Springboks sent well wishes to South Africa’s UFC champion Dricus du Plessis ahead of his fight with Strickland Stevens.
The Boks said they would watch TV early Sunday morning (20 January) to catch all the action in this much-anticipated fight.
“You have the whole nation’s support behind you,” said scrum-half Faf de Klerk.

The message made du Plessis rather emotional.
“I mean people saw a video of me at the game, that was me at my house every weekend before that, just going crazy about our boys and you know that was the moment I will tell my grandkids about one day.
“It was a moment that will be iconic in sports, for the history books. 100% and for me, one of the proudest moments in my life”, said du Plessis.
“Stillknocks” was reflecting on what he witnessed at the Stade de France on Saturday 28th October 2023, when the Boks beat the mighty All Blacks 12-11 in the final in the to win their third consecutive match by one point and claim a record fourth Webb Ellis Trophy.
A proud South African, du Plessis will be heading into his UFC 297 title bout against Sean “Tarzan” Strickland with the support of his nation’s world-champion rugby team behind him.
Du Plessis is unbeaten since he joined the UFC in 2020 and is coming off a massive victory over former champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 290, while Strickland also scored a major upset in his last outing at UFC 293 to claim the middleweight title from Israel Adesanya.
