The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced the matchups for PFL MENA: Riyadh, the first fight card of the inaugural season of the tournament. The historic season opener, which will take place at The Green Halls in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will feature fighters from the Featherweight and Bantamweight divisions, competing in the patented PFL Playoff win and advance format.
It is set for Friday 10 May. Headlining the card will be Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah “The Reaper” Al-Qahtani taking on Morocco’s Taha Bendaoud in a featherweight bout. “We’re proud to offer fighters in the MENA region a chance to compete. By bringing top-tier events to the region, we’re not only serving passionate MMA fans but also pushing the sport forward. Our goal is to grow MMA and expand PFL’s reach globally,” said Pete Murray, CEO of the PFL.
The Saudi’s Al-Qahtani competes in the featherweight division and has been fighting since 2017. Following a successful amateur fight that he won via a first-round submission, Al-Qahtani returned to the cage just over a year later and kickstarted what would be a prosperous professional career.
Since 2018, Al-Qahtani has fought at a few different promotions and built up a 7-win and 1-loss record. This has all led to Al-Qahtani adopting the nickname ‘The Reaper’. Following a four-year run at Brave CF, Al-Qahtani joined the PFL ranks during the 2023 regular season. In his first fight within the promotion, he cinched in a rear-naked choke in the first round to secure a win that made a statement to all.
Al-Qahtani went on to win his next match via unanimous decision and now, for his third bout within the promotion, he fights in front of his home crowd and hopes to make the nation of Saudi Arabia proud. All four PFL MENA Season events will be live on MBC ACTION and on SHAHID, the leading TV and streaming platform in MENA, and will be accessible to fans across the region.
In addition to PFL MENA, the PFL Global Season, PFL Europe, the Bellator Champions Series and PFL’s Pay-Per-View Superfight Division events will be available to watch on the Saudi Sports Company SSC via Shahid’s VIP + Sports package.
