Last year, under the guidance of Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Chairman of the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), the inaugural AlUla Camel Cup took place. 2023 saw the crowning of the ‘Champion of Champions’, complete with a grand prize of SAR 80 million, more than 21 million US dollars.
With the highest prize pots in the world per round of camel racing, the tournament honours the Kingdom’s revered sport in the stunning backdrop of AlUla, one of the country’s famed heritage sites. The AlUla Camel Cup is organised by RCU in collaboration with the Saudi Camel Racing Federation (SCRF).
And 2024 is no different…The Camel cup is back!
With 2024 designated the Year of the Camel to celebrate the animal’s cultural significance, enduring community connection and status in the Kingdom, organisers say the tournament will honour that legacy.
Taking place at AlUla’s Mughayra Heritage Sports Village, the four-day event will feature the region’s fastest camels and most talented riders across several rounds of competition. There are substantial prizes and exquisitely designed AlUla Camel Cup champion trophies up for grabs.
The highly anticipated AlUla Camel Cup, is being heralded as the pinnacle of camel racing, makes a grand return to the historic AlUla from April 24 to Saturday April 27.
The abundance of camel carvings etched into the area’s ancient rock showcase the pivotal role these iconic ‘ships of the desert’ have played in AlUla’s history. Dating back to the 7th century, camel racing is an ancient heritage sport woven into the fabric of the culture and traditions.
Last year’s event AlUla Camel Cup drew thousands of attendees, becoming a benchmark for the sport in the region. This year promises an even more remarkable experience celebrating the camel’s pivotal role and esteemed stature in Saudi culture and society.
