The South African rowing team delivered commendable performances in their respective semifinals, leaving South Africa proud of their dedication to a world-class representation of their country on the greatest sporting stage.
Paige Badenhorst triumphed in the women’s single scull semi final C/D, crossing the finish line in first place to secure her seat in the C final. Her next and final race is scheduled for Saturday the 3rd of August at 09:30 AM. As the first South African woman to compete in this boat class since 2008, Paige will race to qualify within the top 18 boats in the world in the women’s single scull.
The men’s pair of 2012 gold medalists, John Smith and U23 world champion Christopher Baxter, also showcased a phenomenal effort in their semifinal, narrowly missing out on qualification for the A final. They will compete in the B final on Friday the 2nd of August at 10:42 AM, racing for a place within the top 12 in the world.
