South Africa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) for 2024 was delivered amidst a backdrop of both optimism and challenges.

A year that the country celebrates 30 years of democracy which the president reflected on in his speech.

“Just as we cannot deny the progress South Africans have made over the last 30 years, nor should we diminish the severe challenges that we continue to face.

We have endured times of great difficulty when the strength of our constitutional democracy has been severely tested.” President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa outlined the government’s vision and plans for the year ahead.

The president updated the nation about socio-economic developmental problems, youth unemployment and load shedding.

Ramaphosa’s tenure continues to be contested for a new term in office and as the leader of the country’s governing party the African National Congress (ANC).

His speech also highlighted the importance of foreign investments and BRICS partnerships to improve the country’s economic state.

The State of the nation address marked the challenges and the progressive highlights made under the current government.
