The festivities were graced by Chinese individuals from diverse fields who call South Africa home, adding a touch of warmth and community spirit to the celebration. Attendees were treated to traditional performances, delectable Chinese cuisine, and a rich display of cultural traditions that marked the onset of the Year of the Wooden Dragon.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Chen Xiaodong emphasized the thriving sectors in China, providing insight into the nation’s economic prowess. He underscored China’s achievements in various fields, including being a leading grain producer, advancements in the automotive industry, steel production, and the home appliances sector. Ambassador Chen’s remarks painted a vivid picture of China’s economic resilience and its contributions to global industries.

Minister Patricia De Lille also took the stage, commending the Chinese New Year celebration as a symbol of the enduring friendship between South Africa and China. She praised China’s exceptional diplomacy and acknowledged the positive impact it has had on fostering collaboration and mutual understanding between nations.

Ambassador Dr. S. C. Cwele, another distinguished guest at the event, highlighted the historic relations between China and South Africa. Princess Ntando Zulu, adding a touch of royalty to the celebration, expressed her appreciation for the cultural exchange and the opportunities it provides for strengthening ties between the two countries. Her presence symbolized the inclusivity and diversity inherent in the diplomatic relations between China and South Africa.

The Chinese New Year event at the embassy served not only as a festive celebration but also as a platform to showcase the multifaceted connections between China and South Africa.
