GAZA: On October 13th, the Israeli Defense Force instructed Northern Gaza residents to evacuate southward, resulting in an exodus of over a million Palestinians.

Many sought refuge at the UN’s Khanyounis tent camp. Here’s the latest from Gaza with CGTN correspondent Noor Harazeen.

Al-Mawassi Camp overwhelmed

Over 35,000 Palestinians have sought shelter at the newly established Al-Mawassi camp in Gaza.

UNRWA has erected numerous tents to accommodate families, mainly from Jabalia and Bit-lahiya refugee camps in the northern region, reminiscent of the Palestinian Nakba camps in 1948.

Um Maohammed, a refugee from Jabalia, expressed concerns about inadequate living conditions. “They put us in tents, no water, no soap, no blankets. There’s nothing here for us,” she said.

Hussain Al-Najjar, a refugee from Bit-lahiya, recounted their flight from Israeli airstrikes and phosphorus attacks, underscoring their need for safety in Khanyounis.

Gaza: Basic necessities scarce

Camp residents lack fuel, electricity, and internet access but receive canned food packages periodically. Hussein Al-Najjar managed to cook chicken soup for his ten family members.

On Saturday, Egypt briefly reopened the Rafah border, allowing 20 aid trucks to enter Gaza. However, UN workers need time to sort and distribute the aid. Adnan Abu-Hassna, UN spokesperson in the region, stressed the urgent need for 100 aid trucks daily to meet the daily needs.

“We have nearly 20 trucks that entered, but it’s not enough. We need at least 100 trucks; otherwise, we will be dealing partially,” Abu-Hassna emphasised.

Closing the Rafah Border

Palestinians were disappointed as Egypt closed the Rafah border shortly after allowing 20 trucks of humanitarian aid into the area.
