DURBAN, South Africa – In a momentous sporting occasion, South Africa is gearing up to host the 2023 BRICS Games.
The event is set to take place between 18-21 October in the vibrant eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.
This international event, organised by the South African Government and the National Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, is a hallmark of the nation’s tenure as the BRICS Chair for 2023, before Russia takes over next year.

BRICS Games 2023: What to expect
The eThekwini Metro is poised to welcome athletes from the BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, and China – for the 5th edition of the BRICS Games. This sporting spectacle will see competitors from across these nations vie for glory in five different sporting disciplines.
Durban boasts an array of world-class venues for the event, including the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westridge Park Tennis Stadium, Kings Park Swimming Pool, and Bay of Plenty, where athletes aged between U/19 & U/21 will showcase their prowess in Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Beach Volleyball, respectively.
This year’s games hold a special significance, as it marks the most inclusive edition to date. For the first time, the BRICS Games will feature Paralympians participating in both tennis and table tennis, highlighting the commitment to inclusivity and diversity in sports.
South African Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Zizi Kodwa, expressed enthusiasm for the event, saying, “The 2023 BRICS Games promise to be a special experience for all. Further to the strong partnerships between the BRICS nations, these games will also show the power of sport to unite and deepen connections. Sport epitomises the sheer human will and desire to overcome all odds. It brings people, communities, and nations together.”
Previously, the BRICS Games have been hosted in India, China, and South Africa, showcasing the spirit of collaboration and competition among these influential nations.
