The crash site of the helicopter carrying Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi’s has been found. Search and rescue teams say there is no sign of life.

There were nine people on board the aircraft at the time of the crash, including Foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province and other officials were also on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.

The state helicopter went down at 1pm local time on Sunday.

Raisi had been travelling to the Iranian city of Tabriz after attending the inauguration of a dam in Azerbaijan with the country’s president, Ilham Aliyev.

There were two other helicopters in the convoy. Both made it safely to their destination.

Search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched. Fog and rain hampered search efforts and continued overnight. The burnt-out wreckage was found earlier this morning.

An official announcement confirming the death of the president and other officials from Iran is yet to be made.
