The BRICS Women’s Business Alliance hosted a two-day Trade conference at the Durban Convention Centre.
The event was attended by the Chairpersons and members of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, as well as government, traditional leaders and business representatives from the BRICS block and African countries, including Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Lebogang Zulu, the Rotating Chairperson of BRICS WBA in 2023 welcomed the delegates and highlighted the various initiatives embarked on to achieve the collective vision of the members of the Alliance to create impact.
The conference was a catalyst for creating bilateral and multilateral agreements to better expand business engagements involving women. The participants were captivated by various speakers and panel discussions.
Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Province, Nomusa Dube-Ncube spoke about the role of multilateral trade and investment in economic re-calibration, reconstruction, and recovery plans.
She emphasised the fundamental principles of multilateralism, such as consultation and solidarity in the landscape of interconnected economies which play an essential role in forging a path to a more resilient globe and
economic order.
Her Royal Majesty Queen KaMayisela Zulu also welcomed the Conference participants. Speaking about the role of the Zulu Monarchy in contributing to the economic equity and diversity.
The Queen noted that there is a greater opportunity for better partnership between traditional monarchs, government, and private sectors to unlock opportunities across the continent.
There was also a closed session that discussed the proposed initiatives and strategies aimed at the promotion of women’s entrepreneurship in the BRICS.
On the second day of the Conference, the ceremony of signing numerous cooperation agreements and partnership contracts between entrepreneurs from the BRICS countries was held.
