Saudi Arabian football club Al Hilal has broken the world record for a top tier team’s number of consecutive wins.

The record was previously held by joint Welsh and English team, The New Saints.  The team scored 27 straight wins in the 2016-2017 season.

Al Hilal’s managed to knock them off their record-holding perch after achieving 28 consecutive wins when they beat Jeddah rivals Al-Ittihad 2-0 in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals earlier this week.

Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus says it’s an incredible achievement and expressed the team and supporter’s delight at achieving world football history.

The AL Hilal club’s investment of around $380m on player transfers, is certainly paying off.

It’s been a long run of victories for the team.  The last time they did not win was 21 September 2023 when they drew 1-1 to Damac.
