China has recently unveiled Chat Xi PT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that draws inspiration from President Xi Jinping’s political philosophy. This innovative project aims to strike a delicate balance between AI development and adherence to strict content control, all while aligning with socialist values.

The Philosophy Behind Chat Xi PT

Chat Xi PT has been meticulously trained on President Xi Jinping’s political philosophy, officially known as “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”. This ideology was enshrined in China’s constitution in 2018 and has also found its way into the national school curriculum. As a result, it holds significant importance within the country’s political landscape.

Training Data and Development

The Large Language Model (LLM) that powers Chat Xi PT has been trained on locally generated data, including a dozen books authored by President Xi himself. Additionally, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), a powerful internet regulator, provided other relevant works to enhance the chatbot’s understanding of Xi Jinping’s philosophy.

Functionality and Features

Chat Xi PT is not merely a conversational chatbot; it serves several practical purposes.

Answering Questions: Users can engage with Chat Xi PT to seek answers related to Xi Jinping’s ideology, governance, and other relevant topics.
Creating Reports: The chatbot can generate concise reports based on its knowledge, making it a valuable tool for researchers and policymakers.
Summarising Information: Chat Xi PT excels at summarising complex content, distilling key points from lengthy texts.
Translation: It seamlessly translates between Chinese and English, facilitating cross-cultural communication.

Content Control and Compliance

The CAC has set stringent guidelines for generative AI providers, emphasising the embodiment of core socialist values. Chat Xi PT must avoid content that subverts state power, ensuring alignment with the government’s narrative. Tech giants like Baidu and Alibaba closely monitor their LLMs to prevent any inadvertent deviations from the official line.

Future Prospects

While Chat Xi PT is currently in a research phase, there are indications that it may eventually be released for wider public use. Its expertise and authority stem from the carefully curated corpus, which ensures professionalism in the generated content. As China continues to promote Xi Jinping’s views across various formats, this AI chatbot could play a pivotal role in disseminating political knowledge and fostering ideological unity.

Chat Xi PT represents an intriguing intersection of AI technology, political philosophy, and content control. As it evolves, it will be fascinating to observe how this chatbot navigates the delicate balance between openness and compliance within China’s digital landscape. Chat Xi PT embodies Xi Jinping’s vision in the digital realm, serving as both an educational resource and a testament to the country’s commitment to AI development with socialist values at its core.
