On 6 February 2026, Brazilian state-controlled energy company Petrobras announced it had acquired a 42.5% participating interest in an oil exploration block off the coast of Namibia.
Block 2613 is located in the Lüderitz Basin and covers approximately 11,000 square kilometers. The French company TotalEnergies acquired an equal 42.5% stake, with the Namibian state-owned Namcor holding 10% and Eight Offshore Investment Holdings retaining 5%. The acquisition, made from Eight and Maravilla Oil & Gas, is pending final government and regulatory approvals.
Petrobras President Magda Chambriard stated the move is part of the company’s efforts to replenish its oil and gas reserves and marks its return to Namibia. The company has been expanding its African portfolio, having also acquired exploration blocks in São Tomé and Príncipe in 2024 and secured an interest in South Africa’s Deep Western Orange Basin.
