Theme and Focus

Cape Town, South Africa, October 2025, African Mining Week (AMW) 2025 is scheduled to take place from 1–3 October 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Under the theme “From Extraction to Beneficiation: Unlocking Africa’s Mineral Wealth,” the event aims to unite mining stakeholders, global investors, government ministers, downstream value‑chain players and technology providers to explore how Africa can move beyond raw material extraction toward value addition, local beneficiation, regulatory clarity and sustainable growth.

Government Leaders and Speakers

AMW 2025 will feature high‑level participation from African mining ministers and regulatory leaders. Confirmed speakers include:

  • H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi – Minister of Petroleum Resources and Mineral Resources, Arab Republic of Egypt
  • H.E. Dr. Oladele Henry Alake – Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Federal Republic of Nigeria
  • Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah – Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Republic of Ghana
  • H.E. Dr. Kenneth Zikhale Reeves Ng’oma – Minister of Mines, Republic of Malawi

Additionally, Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), will participate in a fireside chat titled “From Policy to Practice: Implementing Egypt’s Vision for Mineral Beneficiation.”

Workshops and Knowledge Exchange

AMW’s programme offers a range of sessions, including the Ministerial Forum, country spotlight panels (Botswana, Angola, Zambia, DRC, Zimbabwe, South Africa, etc.), technical workshops, and roundtables. Topics include legal strategies, local content regulations, critical minerals, downstream processing, ESG and sustainability and the energy‑mining nexus (how renewables, energy supply, and mining intersect). There are also sessions for women in mining leadership, technology adoption (AI, robotics, digital traceability) and mining workforce development.

Sponsors and Partners

The event is backed by a broad coalition of industry, finance, legal, processing and downstream stakeholders. Notable sponsors include:

  • Rand Refinery (Associate Sponsor) – underscores its role in advancing gold sector beneficiation and downstream value addition.
  • Sidley Austin (Associate Sponsor) – global law firm supporting legal/regulatory discussions.
  • OilDynamics (Associate Sponsor) – engineering firm contributing to discussions on investment and innovation.
  • Africa Finance Corporation (AFC)
  • Valterra Platinum
  • First Quantum Minerals
  • B2Gold
  • Pensana
  • Implats
  • TechMet
  • Isondo Precious Metals

These sponsors and partners reflect AMW’s position as a hub for collaboration, investment and opportunity.

Why African Mining Week Matters

AMW 2025 comes at a pivotal time for Africa. With global demand rising for critical minerals (e.g., cobalt, lithium, rare earths) driven by the energy transition, the continent is under pressure to move up the value chain. AMW offers a space to highlight how beneficiation, downstream value addition, legal & regulatory clarity, traceability, and sustainability can enhance both investment appeal and community benefit. Also, co‑locating with African Energy Week allows cross‑sector dialogue between mining, energy, and infrastructure, which is essential given energy demands for mining operations and downstream processing.

Conclusion

African Mining Week 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark event. By bringing together government leaders, industry heavyweights, downstream players, investors and research partners under the theme of beneficiation, the conference seeks not only to discuss Africa’s mineral wealth but to turn potential into action. As participants prepare for Cape Town in early October, AMW offers a valuable opportunity to forge partnerships, drive policy reform, and accelerate the transformation of mining across the continent.
