The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Camel Festival 2025 opened in Riyadh on January 27, 2025, bringing together more than 7,300 camels for ten days of racing, heritage exhibitions and cultural activities. The festival, now considered one of the largest camel racing events in the world, featured participants from over ten countries and ran until February 5. (KSA.com)

The festival hosted 225 races, spanning different categories and age groups of camels, showcasing both the athletic ability of racing breeds and the enduring cultural significance of the animal in Saudi heritage. Organizers also introduced new entertainment and tourism experiences, designed to draw larger international audiences while celebrating the deep traditions of the Arabian Peninsula. (KSA.com)

With a prize pool of more than SAR 70 million (US$18.6 million), the competition attracted elite camel owners and stables from across the Middle East and beyond. The event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of camel racing but also reinforced Saudi Arabia’s investment in developing the sport as part of its cultural tourism strategy. (Arab News)

Beyond the racetrack, the festival included camel beauty contests, traditional markets, and cultural exhibitions, turning the grounds into a living showcase of Bedouin history and identity. Visitors experienced heritage villages, craft stalls, and culinary showcases that connected modern sports tourism with ancient traditions. (Saudi Gazette)

The closing ceremony on February 5 crowned winners across the racing categories, drawing large crowds and international media coverage. Organisers hailed the 2025 edition as a milestone in solidifying Saudi Arabia’s global standing in camel sports and its commitment to preserving cultural practices for future generations. (KSA.com)
