On 12-23 June 2024, Kazan will play host to the International multi-sport event “BRICS Sports Games Kazan 2024”. The competition will take place in the lead-up to the BRICS Summit that will also be held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in October.
About the Games
The BRICS Sports Games are an annual multi-sport event organised by the BRICS countries. The main goal of the tournament is to strengthen friendly sports ties between countries based on the principles of equality, non-discrimination and equal access of athletes to competitions.
The practice of holding sporting events in the BRICS chair country has existed since 2016, when the football tournament was held for the first time in India. In 2017-2018, the group of states hosted the BRICS Sports Games in three sports. Under Russia’s chairmanship, the BRICS Sports Games 2024 will be held in Kazan. The capital of the Republic of Tatarstan has repeatedly organised international competitions and become the centre of high-profile international sporting events.
During 12 days, about 5,000 athletes will be competing in 30 sports in the third capital of Russia. In addition to the BRICS countries, it is planned to invite athletes from other countries to participate in the competition. As part of the BRICS Sports Games, the BRICS Sport Ministers Meeting is scheduled to be held on 21-22 June 2024.
