Saudi Arabia has celebrated its first Saudi Green Initiative Day underlining the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting the environment.
The Saudi government has declared March 27 of every year as SGI Day as it coincides with the anniversary of the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
“Since the launch, 80 related initiatives have been embarked upon, with investments exceeding SAR705 billion,” according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
SGI Day is now an annual climate action awareness day – aiming to mobilise and encourage all to further contribute to a greener future.
This was decided by the country’s cabinet prior to this year’s celebrations.

The theme this year is: For Our Today and Their Tomorrow: KSA Together for a Greener Future.
The initiative has played an important role in accelerating environment protection efforts, transitioning the energy sector, and implementing sustainability programs in various fields.
However, the main aim of the project is to improve quality of life by delivering against three targets.
These are to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, grow 10 billion trees in the Kingdom and protect 30 percent of Saudi land and sea by 2030.
