In a musical celebration of cultural unity, the BRICS International Symphony Orchestra mesmerised the audience with its inaugural concert in Moscow on Thursday.

Established in October 2023, this musical ensemble aims to spotlight the cultural achievements of the BRICS economic bloc, fostering a shared appreciation for music, art, and culture among its member countries.

Led by artistic director and principal conductor Mikhail Golikov from Russia, the orchestra comprises talented musicians from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the founding nations of BRICS.

The ensemble operates under the auspices of the TV BRICS media network, showcasing a commitment to promoting the diverse musical traditions of its member states.

The debut concert featured the mesmerising “BRICS Ouverture,” a composition crafted by composer Murat Kabardokov for this special occasion.

The repertoire also included classical masterpieces and iconic works from the BRICS founder countries, creating a symphony of cultural richness and artistic prowess.

Mikhail Shvydkoy, Russia’s presidential envoy for international music cooperation, conveyed his warm greetings to the orchestra and attendees through presenter Yury Baltachev.

Shvydkoy highlighted the orchestra’s mission to bring the finest musical masterpieces from BRICS nations to global audiences.

The establishment of this multinational musical entity, he noted, is poised to play a significant role in fostering dialogue and strengthening ties between the BRICS countries.

BRICS, initially formed as BRIC in June 2006 at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The economic association has since expanded to include the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia.

The creation of the BRICS International Symphony Orchestra aligns with the organisation’s broader goals of enhancing cultural cooperation and understanding among its member states.

As the orchestra takes center stage, its resonant melodies symbolise not only a harmonious blend of musical traditions but also the potential for cultural exchange and collaboration among nations within the BRICS community.

The debut concert marks a momentous step towards achieving these cultural aspirations on an international stage.
