The All-Russian Political Party member Andrey Klimov says Argentina’s decision to snub an exclusive invite to join BRICS is that country’s loss.

Argentinian President-elect Javier Melei’s government departed from its predecessor, who wrote a letter of motivation to join BRICS as part of phase one of the bloc’s expansion.

Klimov clarified that Argentina was never a BRICS country. Instead, its previous administration wrote a declaration expressing interest in joining the bloc.

Klimov was addressing media via Zoom conference on Tuesday on problems relating to neocolonialism.

“We have five other countries who want to take advantage of joining BRICS. It’s like a person who buys a movie ticket but then decides to throw it away. It is that person’s loss, not the cinema theatre,” said Klimov.

“It’s not so easy to get into BRICS and become a BRICS member,” Klimov added.

Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Commission for International Cooperation and Support of Compatriots Abroad, emphasised that Melei had already demonstrated his position when he announced that Argentina would prefer using the dollar.

“BRICS didn’t lose, but I think Argentina lost the opportunity to join this global alliance. It’s their choice. We support the freedom of nations”.
