BRICS citizens are in for various technological upgrades. According to the BRICS Manufacturing Working Group, which met in Centurion, South Africa, last week, the emerging block explores how to scale up modern solutions to old problems, using new materials and techniques, such as Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (AAC).

The aim is to improve BRICS citizens’ quality of life and enhance sustainability.

The meeting showcased some of the technologies being developed across the BRICS world. These projects aim to improve BRICS citizens’ living standards, reducing manufacturing costs and diminishing manufacturing waste.

Aerated Autoclaved Concrete

AAC is a lightweight, precast, concrete-like material made from sand, cement, lime, and aluminium powder. It’s produced through a process that incorporates air bubbles to create a porous structure, resulting in a lightweight and highly insulating material. AAC is cured in an a high-pressure chamber, to attain its final properties.

Benefits of AAC

Lightweight:

It’s significantly lighter than traditional concrete due to the aeration process during production. This makes it easier to handle, transport, and work with during construction.

Insulation Properties:

AAC has excellent thermal insulation properties, helping to regulate temperature and energy consumption in buildings. It helps keep structures warm in winter and cool in summer.

Fire Resistance:

The concrete has high fire resistance due to its inorganic composition. It does not emit toxic gases or release harmful substances in the event of a fire.

Sound Insulation:

AAC offers good sound insulation properties, providing a quieter indoor environment.

Environmental Benefits:

The production of AAC consumes less energy compared to traditional concrete, and it uses materials that are abundant and readily available, making it more environmentally friendly.

Due to its advantages, It’s commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. It is also an eco-friendly alternative, aligning with sustainable building practices.
