Beijing, China: As China’s national holiday season gets into full swing, a new consumer trend has emerged, propelling the car rental industry to new heights.

Car rental booking orders in Beijing have surged over 200% compared to the previous year during this vacation, with customers flocking to rental outlets during peak times.

Li Songshi, the Beijing Branch China Auto Renting manager, reported, “The bookings on our platform have risen over 40% compared to 2019, and we anticipate a 50% increase by the end of the holiday.”

In response to the surge in demand, car rental service suppliers and platforms have expanded their fleets to include more off-road and large commercial vehicles suitable for long journeys.

They are also employing data technology to dispatch vehicles in real-time to areas with the highest demand, ensuring travellers have access to the transportation they need.

Qu Xiaonan, Head of the security department at Didi, explained, “We give full play to data technology and fully dispatch the vehicles to the areas with the highest demand in real-time.”

The Ministry of Transport recently announced that the car rental industry has continuously increased throughout the year. With new regulations to be introduced, the industry is expected to receive further support and continue its momentum.

The convenience and flexibility offered by car rentals have made them an increasingly popular choice for travellers during the national holiday, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of China’s consumer market. As travellers continue to embrace this trend, the car rental industry looks set to enjoy sustained growth, serving as a bright spot in the Chinese economy during the holiday season and beyond.
