13 January 2026, India Officially Launches BRICS Presidency with “Humanity-First” Vision
New Delhi, India | 13 January 2026
The Government of India formally launched the visual identity and strategic priorities for its 2026 BRICS presidency during an official ceremony in New Delhi on 13 January 2026. The event was presided over by the External Affairs Minister of India, Dr S. Jaishankar.
During the ceremony, Dr Jaishankar launched the dedicated BRICS India 2026 website, unveiled the official logo and announced the presidency’s guiding theme. He stated that India’s approach during its term would be guided by a “humanity-first” and “people-centric” strategy aimed at leveraging the collective strengths of the member states.
The announced presidency theme is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” This theme is structured around four declared strategic pillars: strengthening economic and institutional Resilience, promoting technology and digital infrastructure Innovation, enhancing Cooperation through South-South collaboration, and advancing Sustainability aligned with climate action.
The official logo, selected through a national contest on a government citizen engagement platform, is inspired by the lotus flower. The design incorporates the colours representing BRICS member states and features the salutation “Namaste” at its centre. The designer, Sudeep Subhash Gandhi, stated the symbol represents prosperity, unity in diversity and shared progress.
The launched BRICS India 2026 website will serve as the central public digital platform for the presidency. Its stated functions are to provide information on meetings and initiatives, publish updates on outcomes and enhance transparency and stakeholder engagement throughout the year.
The ceremony marked the public commencement of activities for India’s 2026 BRICS presidency. No new policy agreements or diplomatic announcements were made during the launch event. The proceedings focused on presenting the presidency’s official branding and publicly articulating its intended focus areas for the coming year’s schedule of meetings and the forthcoming BRICS Leaders Summit.
