The discovery of the body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor has sparked outrage across India. As public pressure mounted, the investigation was transferred to India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following criticism of the slow progress made by local authorities. A hospital volunteer has since been arrested in connection with the crime.
The rage over this heinous crime led to a series of protests, with the largest occurring on August 14, when tens of thousands of women across West Bengal took to the streets in a “Reclaim the Night” march.
