On Friday 26 July 2024, Jeddah’s South Asian community gathered at the Equestrian club for a vibrant cultural event, part of Jeddah season 2024. The event featured an array of music, dance and cultural performances, attracting a distinguished crowd which included prominent Saudis, media representatives, and cultural icons.

The concert showcased the talents of renowned Indian artists, including rapper Dabzee, singers Nikhitha Gandhi and Salman Ali, actor Gauahar Khan and the Sangeet Dance Crew. Ali mesmerised the audience with his commanding vocals, lighting up the stage and sparking an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd. Ali reflected on the experience, “I love the energy from the audience. Who made the atmosphere more energetic and sang with me and danced to the songs.”

Actor Gauahar Khan not only brought his charisma to the stage, but he interacted with fans, further elevating the concert’s ambiance. The Sangeet Dance Crew captivated the audience with their vibrant dance moves, showcasing the rich tradition of Indian choreography.

Gandhi, celebrated for her hit Bollywood songs, was thrilled to perform for such a large crowd. She said, “It’s the music that brings us all together. Seeing a sea of faces singing along to my songs is the most rewarding feeling for any artist.” Dabzee, the rapper from Indian state of Kerala, excited the crowd with his energetic performance and urged everyone to dance to his beats.

Javeed Raheem, who came to the event with friends, remarked, “I’ve never seen such a vibrant mix of traditions and talent. It is truly inspiring to see how these cultures come together. Every corner was bursting with life and laughter. This festival was a feast for the senses.”

Host Khan was thrilled at the event, despite the event heat. She was impressed by the vibrant audience energy and their enthusiasm for the music and the performances.

She added, “It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to celebrate Indian culture, even in the face of less-than-ideal weather. Their enthusiasm made the event truly unforgettable, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.”

Every Friday until August 16, the festival celebrates a different Asian culture with live performances, folklore presentations and activities for children. Visitors can explore over 20 stalls and 15 food trucks, offering a wide variety of cuisines from across the region.

The evening was a testament to the rich Indian cultural tapestry of seven Indian nations; India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia and Nepal, combining traditional and contemporary elements into a memorable celebration. The concert highlighted the artistic prowess of the performers and reinforced the strong cultural relations between the Indian community and the broader Jeddah society.
