After a clinical finish by the Women Proteas over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Saturday, South African Women are looking at wrapping up the three-match series in Potchefstroom. South Africa now heads to Potchefstroom for the third and final ODI on Wednesday (17 April), one up in the series after the first match in East London was called off due to bad weather.
At the tricky and slow Diamond Oval wicket in Kimberley, the Proteas won the toss and asked the “Lionesses” of Sri Lanka to bat. When BGTN asked the South African captain Laura Wolvaardt about winning the toss, she said “Well I was happy to win the toss and I think this was my first toss win in thirteen games”.
Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp helped the Proteas claim a commanding seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka. In a record chase at the Kimberley Oval, Wolvaardt led the way with an unbeaten 110 off 141 balls (6 fours) alongside Kapp’s 84-ball 80* (7 fours) as South Africa chased down Sri Lanka’s total of 229 all-out, which featured 51 off 69 runs (9 fours) from Chamari Athapaththu.
The series-ending final ODI takes place on Wednesday, 17 April at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, with play starting at 14h00 local time.The Proteas Women are going into the final match with their tails up. With “Wolfie” Laura Wolvaardt and “Kappie” Marizanne Kapp in devastatingly good form, with the Willow, the Proteas can surely wrap up the series under the lights in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
