Homes are adorned with vibrant kolam designs, intricately crafted from coloured rice powder, symbolising prosperity and auspicious beginnings. A symbolic tray, resplendent with mangoes, bananas, jackfruit, betel leaves, coins, and mirrors, adorns household altars, reflecting abundance and blessings for the year ahead.

Families gather to share in the festivities, relishing a sumptuous meatless feast brimming with traditional delicacies. Children, adorned in their finest attire, pay homage to elders, seeking their blessings as a mark of respect and reverence. The air is filled with laughter and joy as loved ones come together to celebrate unity, love, and cultural heritage.
For devotees, the Chitterai Porutkaatchi exhibit at the revered Meenakshi Temple in Madurai is a focal point of the festivities, drawing pilgrims from far and wide to seek blessings and partake in sacred rituals.
