After a disappointing performance in the very opening match of their group stage losing 0-2 to Mali, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana redeemed themselves against Namibia.

Bafana Bafana beat Namibia by four goals to nil last Sunday night.

The Brave Warriors of Namibia did not show up in the match on the day.South Africa ignited their Afcon campaign with the largest margin of victory so far at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

The last time Bafana scored so many goals in an Afcon tournament in a match was at the 1998 edition in Ouagadougou or Wagadugu the capital of Burkina Faso and it was against Namibia.

Just after the 20-minute mark South Africa’s Benni McCarthy had four goals to his name and wrote himself into African football folklore. Bafana would go on to win 4-1 and qualify for the knockout and eventually made it to the finals where they lost 2-0 to Egypt.

Come Wednesday night ,South Africa is going head to head against Tunisia in the final group match of group E.For South Africa to advance to the last 16, they will need to beat Tunisia in their group finale. That will guarantee them either the top spot in Group E (if Mali fail to beat Namibia) or second place (if Mali record a win over Namibia).

A draw result may be enough for Bafana Bafana as well to grab a spot in the round of 16.

The four best third-placed teams at AFCON 2023 will secure spots in the knockout round. Having four points may be enough for South Africa to seal their passage to the next round.

Bafana would like to repeat what happened in the Afcon final edition of 1996 where they beat Tunisia by 2 goals to nil at a packed FNB stadium in front of the former President Nelson Mandela.

The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia are stoned last in the current group standing and only a win will give them an opportunity to make it to the last 16.It remain to be seen whether Bafana will strip the feathers of the Eagles or the Eagles will soar to the next round at the expense of Bafana Bafana.
