January 2026
Brazil solidified its place on the international aquatics calendar with significant schedule announcements from global governing body World Aquatics during January 2026.
The primary development came with the official confirmation of the full competition schedule for the World Aquatics Championships Budapest 2027, the next edition of the flagship event in the sport . The championships are scheduled to run from 26 June to 18 July 2027 in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, bringing together over 2,500 elite athletes from more than 200 countries to compete in swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving . The announcement provided a key planning milestone for national federations like Brazil’s, as the event is considered vital preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games .
Separately, World Aquatics also confirmed its calendar of other major events for 2026 and 2027 . Notably, the 2026 World Aquatics Diving World Cup will be a three-stop tour taking place in Montreal (Canada), Zapopan (Mexico), and Beijing (China), where the Super Final will be held . The 2026 World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships will be hosted by Rijeka, Croatia . The World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) are scheduled for Beijing in December 2026 .
While the search for future hosts continues, Brazil’s reputation as a major aquatics nation remains strong . The country has a history of hosting prestigious events, including the 2016 Olympic aquatic events in Rio de Janeiro and the 2024 World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships . Historically, Brazil has won 17 gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships, ranking 16th on the all-time medal table .
