TikTok and the Esports World Cup Foundation (ECWF) have formed a partnership aimed at transforming the esports landscape during the inaugural World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this summer. The short form video platform will be the official online entertainment digital service for the Esports World Cup. This collaboration aims to deliver unparalleled engagement and a variety of content to esports enthusiasts worldwide.
As part of the initiative, TikTok will introduce a dedicated EWC hub within the app. This will serve as a centralised destination to promote and showcase content from the tournament including team activities, individual player insights and official broadcasts. It will offer an enriched experience for fans through comprehensive and immersive coverage of the event.
Additionally, TikTok will produce a weekly show that features reports and news from the Esports World Cup. The show will offer exclusive behind-the-scenes content throughout the tournament. The Esports World Cup is the largest gaming event to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this July and August. It has recently announced a lineup of partners including prominent brands like Adidas and Pepsi. A prize of $60 million will be distributed across 21 esports titles during the event.
However, EWC has courted with controversy over its connection with the Saudi Arabian government and the country’s human rights records regarding the LGBTQ+ community. The issues have resulted in debates and scrutiny within the esports community. As the event approaches, discussions about ethics and the role of sporting events in global diplomacy and human rights advocacy remains a focal point. Mohammad Harb, head of Partnerships at TikTok Mena, highlighted the importance of TikTok’s commitment to enhancing a global appreciation for esports and bridging the gap between fans and players.
He further remarked, “Promoting a shared appreciation for e-sports, connecting fans and players across different cultures and regions is at the top of TikTok priorities. By leveraging our innovative capabilities, content creators can bring fresh and exciting perspectives to the e-sports community,”. TikTok enhances the fan experience with real-time interactions and exclusive content. By continuously evolving and adapting to the needs of the e-sports community, we are helping to shape the future of gaming content and fan engagement.”
He mentioned how TikTok’s innovative capabilities empower content creators to contribute with their unique perspectives thus enriching the esports community. Mohammed Alnimer, Sales Director, of the Esports World Cup Foundation said, “We are excited to join forces with TikTok to redefine esports content and entertainment among a broader audience. TikTok is an excellent way to authentically engage with esports communities worldwide and enable more fans to follow and support the Esports World Cup athletes and clubs. Content creation is a key part of our strategy to grow the global esports ecosystem, and we couldn’t have asked for a better partner than TikTok to help achieve that goal.”
TikTok has released a series of initiatives that aim to enhance the Esports World Cup experience. This emphasizes its role as a significant platform for esports content engagement. TikTok Live will feature diverse content creators broadcasting live from the event providing a real-time experience.
