The Fontainebleau Las Vegas, nestled in the heart of Sin City, has played host to the highly anticipated Power Slap 8 event. Amongst the electrifying matchups, the showdown between Danie “Pitbull” van Heerden and the reigning champion Koa “Da Crazy Hawaiian” Viernes stood out.

Van Heerden, known for his unyielding power and aggressive style, faced a formidable challenge in “Da Crazy Hawaiian” and the bout delivered the high drama and intense action that fans expected. However, in a surprising turn of events Van Heerden fell short in his title bid, marking a significant moment in his career.

The match began with both fighters displaying their trademark skills.  Vierne’s first slap was a powerful resounding blow that set the tone for the fight. Van Heerden however, absorbed the impact with remarkable composure, his expression unchanging.

When it was his turn, Van Heerden delivered a thunderous slap that echoed through the arena showcasing the raw power that had earned him his nickname “The Pitbull”. As the rounds progressed it became clear that this was not going to be an easy victory for either fighter. Van Heerden’s slaps were fierce and relentless, each one delivered with precision and power.

” Da Crazy Hawaiian” however, proved to be an immovable object countering with equally powerful blows that tested Van Heerden’s resilience. The third round was a turning point in the match. Van Heerden, perhaps feeling the pressure, delivered a slap with such force that it seemed destined to tip the scales in his favour. Vierne staggered but quickly regained his composure, retaliating with a slap that left Van Heerden momentarily stunned.

The South Africa’s balance faltered, and the crowd held its breath, sensing the shift in momentum. The turning point in the fight and which was a disadvantage for the South African was the fact that he found himself on the canvas too many times. In round two of five, Da Crazy Hawaiian’s slap did send the Pitbull crashing to the ground. And again, in the third round, the South African found himself on the canvas after a powerful slap from Koa.

For Van Heerden, this loss is a significant setback, but it also serves as a source of motivation. Known for his indomitable spirit, he is determined to use this experience to fuel his future training and preparation. Van Heerden’s journey in the world of power slap fighting is far from over. With his unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence, fans can expect to see him return to the arena with renewed vigor and determination.

The support from his global fan base remains steadfast with many expressing their belief that “Pitbull” will reclaim his place amongst the top contenders. The judges’ scorecards unanimously favoured Viernes, with scores of 48 -44,47-45 and 45-47 despite a point deduction against the “Da Crazy Hawaiian” – and he retained his title as the super heavyweight champion. In other news, South African Heavyweight Slap Fighter, Tjaart ‘Piston’ Kruger had his fight cancelled in the USA.  Piston is due to fight in August 2024 with an opponent yet to be announced in Saudi Arabia.
