Chinese construction teams have swiftly assembled and delivered 54 container homes to Taojia Town in the hard-hit ethnic county of Jishishan.

This was after a devastating magnitude-6.2 earthquake recently struck northwest China’s Gansu Province.

The makeshift housing, covering an area of 18 square meters each, is designed to provide urgent relief for residents displaced by the seismic event.

Ma Yunfei, the Production Manager from Gansu Construction Investment Management Company, shared details about the container homes, highlighting their dimensions of three meters in width and six meters in length.

These homes, constructed using insulation rock wool material—a class-A fireproof material—ensure the safety and protection of the occupants.

“Our primary goal is to offer temporary shelter for those affected by the earthquake,” stated Ma Yunfei. “To enhance the living conditions, we are considering installing electric heaters for heating services.

Plans are also underway to bring in water and power supplies to address the residents’ basic needs. The makeshift houses will be suitable for habitation after some necessary preparations.”

As of December 21, all the erected boarding houses have been successfully connected to the power supply, showcasing the efficiency and dedication of the construction teams involved in the relief efforts.

Moreover, three additional container homes have been added to maximise the available space to accommodate more displaced individuals.

The deployment of these container homes not only underscores the resilience and adaptability of temporary housing solutions but also emphasizes the commitment of the construction teams to providing timely and essential relief to the earthquake-affected communities in Gansu Province.

The ongoing efforts aim to support residents as they navigate the challenging aftermath of the seismic event and work towards rebuilding their lives.
