In Iran, preparations are underway ahead of the 15th Nanotechnology Exhibition which will take place in Tehran from November 3-6, 2024. The event aims to promote market growth, foster the growth of innovative enterprises and enhance exports in different industrial sectors.

This event marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards the advancement of technological innovation and industrial growth.

The exhibition is renowned globally for its cutting-edge nanotechnology and highlights Iran’s commitment to fostering scientific research, development and commercialisation in the nanotechnology field.

Innovation and industrial growth

Nanotechnology has become the cornerstone of Iran’s scientific and industrial development strategies, creating the foundation for growth across different sectors.  The country has steadily invested in research, infrastructure and collaborative efforts to further improve the nanotechnology and nanoscience sector. This has positioned the country as a regional leader in the field.

According to recent statistics, Iran has successfully exported its nanotechnology products to 48 countries in total. In the current Iranian calendar year that ends on March 20, 2025, 1808 nanotechnology products have been sold and manufactured across 15 different industries using domestic technologies.

The journey leading up to Iran’s 15th Nanotechnology Exhibition reflects Iran’s achievements in boosting nanotechnology innovations from laboratory samples to commercial products

This production and exportation highlight Iran’s significant strides in leveraging nanotechnology to boost its industrial sectors and expand its global technological innovation footprint.

Early development and foundation

Iran’s interest in nanotechnology dates back many decades ago, with its research efforts beginning in the late 20th century. The Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), established in 2001, laid the foundation for systematic development in the field.

Expansion of research and development

Iran has made substantial investments in nanotechnology research and development, leading to an increase in the number of laboratories, research centres and academic programs dedicated to nanoscience. Universities including the Sharif University of Technology and Tehran University have emerged as key hubs for nanotechnology research, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.

International collaboration

The country’s nanotechnology achievements have gained international recognition, with Iran actively participating in joint research projects and global conferences. The Nanotechnology Exhibition provides a significant platform for displaying Iran’s technological advancements and attracting foreign investment.

Strategic initiatives and national projects

The Iranian government has supported nanotechnology through various initiatives and national projects aimed at addressing societal challenges and boosting industrial competitiveness. Through these initiatives, diverse sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, energy and environment have been encompassed. The applications of nanotechnology in medicine have shown a significant improvement in the results of drug delivery systems, therapeutic interventions and overall diagnostics.

Prospects and Outlook

Iran remains committed to further enhancing its nanotechnologies capabilities, creating a environment conducive for innovation and promoting sustainable economic growth through technological advancement. The 15th Nanotechnology Exhibition is set to be a testament to Iran’s determination to increase the potential of nanotechnology.

The upcoming 15th Nanotechnology Exhibition serves as a platform to celebrate achievements, inspire future generations of scientists and engineers, and create new partnerships towards a brighter future in the world of technology.
