Cape Town, South Africa – Anwar Abdullatief, a culinary maverick, is shaking up the traditional dining scene with the opening of The Happy Uncles, South Africa’s pioneering fine dining halal restaurant. Situated in the heart of Cape Town, this establishment is making waves with its innovative approach to gastronomy.

Stepping into The Happy Uncles, one immediately notices the departure from convention. Gone are the traditional puffy white chef hats, replaced by demure tartan flat caps and stonewashed blue aprons. It’s a reflection of Abdullatief’s unique vision and commitment to breaking culinary norms.

Inside the kitchen, a team of 11 works diligently to craft each dish meticulously. From elaborate platters adorned with mature cheddar cookies to deep-fried dune spinach inspired by surfing trips along South Africa’s west coast, every creation is a testament to creativity and skill.

What truly sets The Happy Uncles apart is its dedication to inclusivity. As a devout Muslim, Abdullatief ensures that every dish is halal, without compromising on taste or quality. It’s about creating an experience that everyone can enjoy, challenging the notion that fine dining has to be exclusive.

Despite initial scepticism, Abdullatief’s vision has been met with resounding success. The Happy Uncles has quickly become a fixture in Cape Town’s culinary landscape, earning rave reviews and accolades, including the prestigious Rising Star prize at South Africa’s premier restaurant awards.

Reflecting on his journey, Abdullatief acknowledges that success was never part of the plan. “Life pushed me in this direction,” he says with a smile. “And I’m grateful for every twist and turn along the way.”

As diners flock to The Happy Uncles to savour its exquisite offerings, they’re not just enjoying a meal – they’re experiencing a culinary revolution. One that celebrates diversity, innovation, and the joy of good food shared amongst friends.

For those eager to embark on a culinary adventure, The Happy Uncles awaits in the vibrant streets of Cape Town.
