The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s high-profile delegation has successfully concluded its participation in the 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting.

Saudi Press Agency reports that Riyadh will host a WEF Special Meeting on global cooperation, growth, and energy from April 28-29, 2024.

Chaired by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Saudi delegation engaged in a series of critical dialogues, bilateral and multilateral meetings aimed at shaping solutions to global challenges and laying the foundations for a more connected, resilient, and thriving future.

The delegation, featuring key figures such as Her Royal Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar AlSaud, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States, and several ministers including Commerce, State for Foreign Affairs, Investment, Finance, Communications and Information Technology, Industry and Mineral Resources, and Economy and Planning, actively participated in highlight sessions covering a spectrum of topics.

These included discussions on securing an insecure world, frictionless services, Gulf economies, regulatory considerations for non-banks, sustainable development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the future of banking and technology in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, the Kingdom’s delegation launched the Saudi House: Bold Visions Series, a platform bringing together change-makers, policymakers, and innovators to discuss solutions across key areas of economic development, including the blue economy, tourism, and technology investments.

The WEF Special Meeting scheduled in Riyadh is a significant outcome of the collaboration between Saudi Arabia and the Forum, which is expected to convene more than 700 global leaders from the public and private sectors, international organisations, NGOs, academia, and civil society.

This gathering aims to foster dialogues between nations, contributing to revitalising international cooperation.

During the meeting, the Kingdom inked two agreements with WEF’s innovation platform UpLink to catalyse innovative global solutions to pressing environmental and sustainability challenges.

The agreements focus on nurturing innovation ecosystems for early-stage impact entrepreneurs, addressing critical issues such as ocean degradation, biodiversity loss, and the circular carbon economy.

Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed to enhance cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), focusing on a wide range of public policy initiatives, including the economy, corporate governance, and sustainability.

These agreements mark a significant step towards advancing global solutions and strengthening international partnerships for a sustainable future.
