It also has all the tools to be a world economic powerhouse. With the most arable land spanning some 96 million hectares, superior farming processes yield some of the best quality meats, wines and produce. Exports have climbed to 3.5 million tons in 2021-22.
Beneath the same land lies a treasure trove of mineral wealth. South Africa holds the world’s largest gold reserves, platinum, chrome and manganese ore, and the second-largest reserves of zirconium, vanadium and titanium.
