Combatting the scourge of Human Trafficking

In the spirit of International Women’s Day, BGTN celebrates unsung heroes, women who’ve experienced harsh realities through the scourge of human trafficking and survived.

Trafficking In Persons (TIP) is modern-day slavery. It’s an illicit act that is done through trade and exploitation of humans. This crime involves recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or using force to exploit and make a profit.

This crime transcends borders, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. It exploits the marginalized, strips the body of its dignity, and takes away one’s freedom.

The horrors endured by victims of human trafficking are unimaginable, with many subjected to physical and sexual violence, coercion, and psychological manipulation.

BGTN Deep Dive: human trafficking; the modern day slave trade

Escape is often an unattainable dream as victims are trapped in a cycle of exploitation with no means of breaking free, with no voice or power over their bodies.

On this day, we stand in solidarity with victims of human trafficking, amplifying their voices and advocating for their rights.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to ending human trafficking in all its forms, ensuring that every woman and girl has the opportunity to live a life free from fear, exploitation, and oppression.
