Russian President Vladimir Putin met this week with families from the “This Runs in Our Family” contest in the country.

The all-Russian family contest is an exclusive competition where families work together to complete tasks on various topics.

The contest is part of the Year of the Family in Russia, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with participants and winners. The contest is organised by Kremlin deputy chief of staff Sergei Kiriyenko, who oversees domestic politics.

It is part of a more significant effort to create a theatrical backdrop of a supposedly flourishing country during the 2024 presidential election.

he contest is similar to a TV show and has attracted hundreds of thousands of people who have registered for the competition. The contest includes both patriotic activities, such as creating a family tree, and entertainment.

The focus is on large families, with the President signing an Executive Order on the status of a large family and highlighting its importance as a mainstay of the country.

Putin emphasised family values, such as respect for older people, love and care for younger ones, and hard work.

“These are the very traditional values that we constantly talk about and support. In fact, our entire domestic policy and our economic policy are focused on supporting the family,” said the President.

He underlines these traditional values as crucial for the nation’s fabric, and the focus on supporting families aligns with domestic and economic policies.

While acknowledging there is still work to be done, President Putin expressed the goal of creating a society where routine functioning addresses family needs without the necessity for special programs.

He outlines existing support measures, including packages covering the time from pregnancy to a child’s 18th birthday, maternity capital, and extending support to young people under 23 who are full-time students.

Putin also encouraged participants to share feedback and suggestions, seeking their assessment of the ongoing work and any recommendations for improvement or adjustment of existing measures.

This demonstrates a commitment to engaging with the public and incorporating their perspectives into policy considerations.
