The South African Parliament is set to host the 9th BRICS Parliamentary Forum on Tuesday. Approximately 250 parliamentary delegates from the BRICS member states are expected to convene at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.

The pivotal inter-parliamentary gathering aims to enhance collaboration among the BRICS Member States on socio-political and economic matters.

The forum promises to be a platform for extensive discussions, policy deliberations, and partnerships crucial to the growth and development of these countries and the African continent.

BRICS Parliament: What to expect

Parliamentary representatives from BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, will start arriving on Monday.

The proceedings are scheduled to take place until the end of the week.

Under the overarching theme, “Harnessing Multilateralism and Parliamentary Diplomacy to Deepen BRICS and Africa Partnership for accelerated implementation of the Africa Free-Trade Agreement,” the forum will work towards implementing declarations from the August summit.

The BRICS member states rotate the chairmanship, with South Africa currently at the helm, having assumed the position in January 2023.

This 9th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, hosted by South Africa, promises to foster closer ties, multilateralism, and sustainable development in a rapidly evolving global landscape, marking it as a noteworthy event on the international diplomatic calendar.
