On August 8 and 9, China will host a special session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) focusing on “Prospects for Interregional Cooperation between the Russian Far East and Guangdong and Heilongjiang Provinces.

The Russian delegation will meet with their Chinese counterparts to discuss the economic and investment opportunities in Russia’s eastern regions and discuss potential areas for future collaboration with China. On the eve of the EEF, the New Horizons forum took place in Chita, with participants from Russia, China and Mongolia. This year, the EEF will be held in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6.

The Eastern Economic Forum is an annual event designed to promote economic development in Russia’s Far East and is renowned for bringing together business leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the world. This year’s roadshow in China will explore investment potential and economic synergies between Russia’s eastern regions and China’s major provinces, Guangdong and Heilongjiang.

The Russian delegation, consisting of senior officials and influential business figures from the Far East, will engage with their Chinese counterparts to identify and discuss new avenues for economic cooperation. This session is poised to build upon existing partnerships and explore fresh opportunities for joint ventures and investments.

Anton Kobyakov, advisor to the President of Russia, emphasizes that the EEF is a key platform for fostering cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region, a significant hub in the multipolar world. The theme for this year is “The Far East in 2030: Joining Efforts, Creating Opportunities,” with a focus on innovative technologies, transportation, and energy.

In addition to business discussions, the forum will feature rich cultural and sports programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Far Eastern Street exhibition, which showcases the cultures of the Far East and participating countries.

The EEF Games will also be held, offering competitions in hockey, figure skating, curling, and yachting. The event has been held annually since 2015. Last year, it was attended by more than 7000 participants from 62 countries, including 2400 business professionals. The largest delegations were from China, India, Myanmar, the Philippines and Laos.

The Eastern Economic Forum 2024 promises to be a landmark event for economic diplomacy and cooperation between Russia and China. The discussions and collaborations that emerge from these gatherings are expected to significantly impact the economic landscape of the Asia-Pacific region, paving the way for deeper, more effective partnerships between the two nations.
